Mounjaro Patient Assistance: Savings, Eligibility and Coverage Options

Program information checked September 15, 2026. Use the linked official terms when filling a prescription.

Does Lilly Cares provide free Mounjaro?

No Mounjaro program appears on the current Lilly Cares available-medications list. Do not apply another Lilly drug's income threshold, application timetable or delivery arrangement to Mounjaro. A manufacturer savings card is a separate program.

If someone offers to submit a Mounjaro patient-assistance application for a fee, ask for the official program name and the current product list first. You should be able to verify that the medicine is included before sending financial records or paying an enrollment service.

What does the Mounjaro manufacturer coupon cover?

The current Lilly savings-card terms cover eligible adults with commercial drug insurance and an approved-use prescription for the single-dose pen. Government-program enrollees are excluded. For covered prescriptions, the advertised minimum is $25, with a $150 maximum benefit per one-month fill. Commercially insured patients without Mounjaro coverage have a separate offer starting at $499 per month. These are conditional prices, not guaranteed copays. The covered-prescription terms cap annual savings at $1,950 with up to 13 fills. The published card expires December 31, 2026.

An example of the cap: if an otherwise eligible covered prescription has a $400 patient charge and the card applies its full $150 monthly benefit, the remaining charge is $250. The words "as little as $25" do not erase the benefit limit. Confirm the pharmacy's actual adjudicated amount before accepting the fill.

How to activate and use the card

Start at the official savings page, complete its eligibility questions and give the resulting card details to your pharmacy. Bring your current insurance information and ask the pharmacist to identify any rejection message. Distinguish a rejected insurance claim from a rejected savings-card claim; they may require different follow-up.

Ask which presentation and supply length the quote covers, how much benefit remains, and when eligibility must be checked again. Do not assume that an old card renews automatically or that a three-month prescription has the same limits as a one-month fill. Compare the complete terms for the proposed transaction.

Is there a free manufacturer bridge while insurance approval is pending?

The official savings information reviewed for this guide does not establish a universal free Mounjaro bridge supply. A pending prior authorization is not a promise of medication. Ask the prescriber's office about your immediate treatment plan and ask Lilly for the written terms of any named offer being proposed.

A temporary sample, if your clinician actually has one, does not resolve next month's price. Before relying on temporary supply, write down its end date, the expected refill charge and the person handling the coverage request. Contact your clinician before a cost-related interruption; do not stretch doses or choose a new dose to make a supply last.

What should I do after an insurance denial?

Use the denial letter to identify the problem: missing documentation, a prior-authorization criterion, a formulary exclusion or a benefit exclusion. Ask your prescriber to address that specific reason. A generic clinical-trial attachment is not a substitute for the requested records.

HealthCare.gov explains internal appeals and external review. Use the process and deadline applicable to your own plan. Keep the submission confirmation, response date and case number. Ask whether a formulary or tier exception is available rather than assuming it is.

A Mounjaro denial from a commercial plan: match the reason, then the federal appeal clocks

Decision diagram. The insurer must explain a denial in writing within 15 days for a prior authorization request, or within 72 hours for urgent care. Sort the letter's reason: missing records or a required earlier medicine, so the prescriber sends the history or the reason it was unsuitable; a drug or benefit exclusion, so ask whether an exception or appeal exists, or ask the benefits administrator about a benefit change; or coverage with a high bill, which is a deductible, coinsurance, supply or network question rather than a denial. File the internal appeal within 180 days, which is 6 months, of the denial notice, keeping copies and call notes. If the plan upholds a denial that involved medical judgment, request external review in writing within 4 months of the final denial; a standard review is decided within 45 days and an expedited one within 72 hours, and the insurer must accept the reviewer's decision. In an urgent situation, external review can be requested at the same time as the internal appeal.
The middle step sorts a denial by the reasons this page lists; the clocks come from HealthCare.gov's summary of the federal appeal rules for private health plans. External review is for denials that involve medical judgment, such as medical necessity, or an experimental-treatment finding, so a plain benefit exclusion may end at the internal appeal. Your denial letter and plan documents give the deadlines that bind your plan, and a state process may add protections. Medicare, Medicaid and TRICARE use their own appeal systems, which are not shown. Text version of this diagram
  1. The written denial: The insurer must explain the denial in writing: within 15 days for a prior authorization request, or within 72 hours for urgent care.
  2. What reason does the letter give?
    • Missing records or step: Approval is missing or an earlier medicine is required. The prescriber sends the treatment history or the documented reason it was unsuitable.
    • Drug or benefit excluded: Ask whether an exception or appeal exists under this plan. For an employer exclusion, ask the benefits administrator about a benefit change.
    • Covered, bill is high: Not a denial: check the deductible, coinsurance, supply length and pharmacy network.
  3. Internal appeal: File within 180 days (6 months) of the denial notice, with the claim number and the prescriber's letter. Keep copies and the date, time and name for every call.
  4. Did the plan uphold the denial?
    • No: Fill the prescription and keep the decision letter with your records.
    • Yes: If the denial involved medical judgment, such as medical necessity, request external review in writing within 4 months of the final denial. Standard decision within 45 days; expedited within 72 hours. The insurer must accept the reviewer's decision.
  5. Urgent care: In an urgent situation you can ask for external review at the same time as the internal appeal.

What if I have Medicare, Medicaid or no insurance?

For Medicare or Medicaid, ask the plan about the exact prescription, indication, pharmacy and coverage requirements. Do not substitute a commercial savings card for that answer. Medicare patients can also check Extra Help for assistance with eligible Part D costs.

If uninsured, request written cash quotes from licensed pharmacies and ask your care team about treatment options within your budget. When a community clinic or nonprofit suggests help, confirm whether it actually funds this medicine, currently accepts applications and serves your location. A listing in a directory is not an award of assistance, and clinic participation in 340B does not establish your retail price.

Compare costs without comparing unlike prescriptions

For each quote, record the brand, presentation, strength, quantity, days supplied, medication charge, appointment charge, shipping and any recurring membership. Price the planned refill as well as the first fill. Ask whether an outside-insurance payment receives any deductible credit; do not assume it does.

Mounjaro and Zepbound have separate prescribing information and savings terms. A shared ingredient does not transfer an insurance approval or coupon. If weight management is the treatment question, compare the Zepbound assistance options and Wegovy assistance options with your prescriber.

Can I combine discounts or use an HSA or FSA?

Ask the pharmacist to compare separate payment routes. Do not combine offers unless their terms permit it. For an HSA or FSA, retain the receipt for your actual unreimbursed expense and check the account rules in IRS Publication 969. The manufacturer-paid portion is not your expense to reimburse again.

Is compounded tirzepatide a Mounjaro assistance program?

No. FDA explains that compounded GLP-1 products are not FDA approved. They are not Mounjaro coupons or proof of access to the branded product. A lower advertised price does not establish equivalent evidence or suitability for your prescription.

What clinical evidence belongs in an access discussion?

The Mounjaro prescribing information is the starting point for approved use, precautions and dosing. SURPASS-2 studied tirzepatide against semaglutide in type 2 diabetes. Such evidence can inform a clinician's treatment rationale; it does not prove a particular insurer must cover the prescription or that a financial-assistance program includes it.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the Mounjaro patient-assistance application?
Mounjaro is not listed among Lilly Cares medicines. Check the official Mounjaro savings page and your insurer rather than submitting another medicine's assistance form.
Does the Mounjaro savings card work if insurance denies coverage?
The current terms include a separate offer for eligible commercially insured patients without Mounjaro coverage. That is different from having no insurance. Ask the pharmacy to check the exact eligibility and price.
How long does Mounjaro assistance approval take?
There is no universal approval timetable or free bridge guarantee. Ask the specific insurer or named program for the status of your complete request and its applicable deadline.
