What FDA's records say (September 2026 data)

  • Trulicity is licensed as a biologic under BLA 125469; the Purple Book lists its 0.75, 1.5, 3 and 4.5 mg autoinjectors as prescription products.[1]
  • A biosimilar approval can take effect after the 12-year exclusivity period that follows first licensure. FDA has not listed a first-licensure or exclusivity date for Trulicity.[2]
  • Only an interchangeable biosimilar may be swapped in at the pharmacy without your prescriber, and state pharmacy law still applies.[3]
  • Patent lists that Lilly gives a biosimilar applicant must reach FDA within 30 days and are published on the Purple Book patent-list page.[4]

Records to recheck every few months

  • Purple Book product search for "dulaglutide": any row from a company other than Eli Lilly, marked 351(k)
  • That row's licence type: biosimilar, or interchangeable biosimilar
  • Purple Book patent-list page: whether Trulicity now appears
  • Your plan's formulary: whether a dulaglutide biosimilar is listed, and at what tier

Questions for your pharmacist, prescriber or plan

  1. Is there a GLP-1 on my formulary that would cost me less than Trulicity this year?
  2. Am I eligible for the Trulicity Savings Card or a state pharmaceutical assistance program?
  3. If a dulaglutide biosimilar is licensed, is it interchangeable, and does this state allow pharmacy substitution?
  4. Would a biosimilar come in a different pen, and who would show me how to use it?
  5. Would switching to a biosimilar need a new prior authorization?
