From the Neurontin label and FDA's BPC-157 review

  • In the label's nerve-pain trials, somnolence affected 21% on gabapentin versus 5% on placebo, and dizziness 28% versus 8%.[1]
  • Serious breathing problems can happen when gabapentin is taken with other medicines that cause severe sleepiness, such as opioids, or by someone who already has breathing problems.[1]
  • The label recommends adjusting the dose for reduced kidney function or hemodialysis.[1]
  • Gabapentin should not be stopped abruptly, because seizure frequency may increase.[1]
  • FDA's briefing for the July 23-24, 2026 advisory committee found no information to assess BPC-157's pharmacokinetics in humans.[2]

For the prescriber or pharmacist

  1. Does my kidney result change the gabapentin dose I should be on?
  2. Which of my other medicines add to sleepiness or breathing risk?
  3. What breathing or sedation signs should make me call you, or call 911?
  4. Is there any reason to change gabapentin before adding anything new?
