As-needed benzodiazepine timing card for Mounjaro dose steps

A pocket record of each as-needed benzodiazepine dose in the weeks after starting or raising Mounjaro: when you took it, whether with food, how long it took to work, any vomiting, and whether you were tempted to redose. It shows your prescriber a timing pattern instead of a guess.

Label facts behind the card

  • Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can affect absorption of medicines taken by mouth; the effect was largest after the first 5 mg dose and smaller after later doses.[1]
  • In the Valium label, a meal moved diazepam's peak from 1.25 hours to about 2.5 hours.[2]
  • Alprazolam (Xanax) normally peaks 1 to 2 hours after a dose.[3]
  • Clonazepam's half-life is typically 30 to 40 hours.[4]
  • Benzodiazepines with opioids can cause profound sedation, slowed breathing, coma and death.[4]

Get help now for

  • Severe drowsiness or breathing problems, especially with an opioid, alcohol or another sedating medicine.[4]
  • Vomiting or diarrhea that stops you keeping fluids down, since fluid loss can harm the kidneys.[1]

Ask before the next Mounjaro increase

  1. How long should I wait before deciding an as-needed dose has not worked?
  2. If I vomit soon after a dose, should I take another or wait?
  3. Would a scheduled dose or a different benzodiazepine suit me better while Mounjaro is being increased?
  4. Is it safe to drive on days I take both?
