What the two labels establish
- Pregabalin leaves the body mainly through the kidneys, unchanged, and its dose is adjusted when kidney function is reduced.[1]
- Taken with food, pregabalin peaks about 25% to 30% lower and later (about 3 hours), with no clinically relevant change in total absorption.[1]
- Pregabalin can cause dizziness and sleepiness that may affect driving, and can cause swelling (edema) and weight gain.[1]
- Wegovy delays stomach emptying, which can affect the absorption of medicines taken by mouth; its label says to monitor their effects.[2]
Questions for the prescriber or pharmacist
- Is my pregabalin dose still right for my current kidney function?
- If my symptoms change after a Wegovy dose increase, what else could explain it?
- Should my pregabalin dose be reviewed if my weight changes a lot?
- For my condition, is there an option with less effect on weight, and what would I give up?
- Do any of my other oral medicines need closer monitoring now that Wegovy slows stomach emptying?
Get medical help right away for
- Swelling of the throat, head or neck, which can affect breathing: get emergency care.[1]
- Breathing problems, especially if you also take opioids or other sedating medicines or have lung disease.[1]
- Severe stomach pain that will not go away, with or without nausea or vomiting: stop Wegovy and call your healthcare provider.[2]
