Limits and timing from the labels

  • Regular Strength 325 mg: no more than 10 tablets (3,250 mg) in 24 hours for adults.[1]
  • Extra Strength 500 mg: no more than 6 caplets (3,000 mg) in 24 hours unless a doctor directs otherwise.[2]
  • Severe liver damage may occur above 4,000 mg in 24 hours, with other acetaminophen products, or with 3 or more alcoholic drinks a day.[2]
  • After a first 5 mg Zepbound dose, acetaminophen peaked 1 hour later and 55% lower; total exposure over 24 hours was not changed.[3]

Before the next dose

  • Checked the time since the last dose against the package interval
  • Added up the last 24 hours from every product, not just this one
  • Checked that no other medicine I am taking also contains acetaminophen
  • Asked a doctor first, if I have liver disease
  • Asked a doctor or pharmacist first, if I take warfarin

Act now

  • In case of an acetaminophen overdose: get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away at 1-800-222-1222, even if there are no signs or symptoms.[2]
  • Skin reddening, blisters or rash after acetaminophen: stop it and seek medical help right away.[2]

For the pharmacist or prescriber

  1. Which of my medicines contain acetaminophen, including any prescription pain medicine?
  2. Is my 24-hour limit lower than the package amount because of my liver, alcohol use or other medicines?
  3. Relief seems slower since I started Zepbound: should anything change, or should I just keep to the package interval?
  4. Before a procedure, should acetaminophen be timed differently?
