What the evidence says
- In SURMOUNT-1 body scans over 72 weeks, about 75% of the weight lost on tirzepatide was fat and 25% was lean mass.[1]
- Those participants were advised to do at least 150 minutes of activity a week but had no specific strength-training programme.[1]
- Mounjaro with insulin or a sulfonylurea raises the risk of low blood sugar; a lower dose of those medicines may be needed.[2]
- Tirzepatide's half-life is about 5 days, which is why it is injected once a week.[2]
Stop the session and get help
- Severe stomach pain, sometimes spreading to the back, with or without nausea or vomiting: possible pancreatitis.[2]
- Shakiness, sweating, dizziness, confusion, blurred vision or a fast heartbeat: possible low blood sugar, especially with insulin or a sulfonylurea.[2]
- Repeated vomiting or diarrhea: dehydration can lead to kidney injury.[2]
Every four weeks
- Measure your waist at the same spot
- Repeat your strength benchmark and note whether it held
- Weigh on the same scale at the same time of day
- Look back at which days after injection felt hardest
- Bring the log to your next dose review
