NMN or NR sleep diary: dose time, caffeine, light and sleepiness

Two weeks of baseline nights, then four weeks with NMN or NR, logged the same way each morning, so a change in sleep can be weighed against caffeine, light and timing. Includes the questions to raise if sleep problems persist.

What the studies on this page found

  • In a 12-week trial of 250 mg NMN or placebo in adults 65 or older, sleep-quality scores improved in all groups and the difference between groups over time was not significant.[1]
  • Sleep medicine guidelines recommend multicomponent cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia for chronic insomnia (a strong recommendation).[2]
  • The same guideline suggests that sleep hygiene not be used as the only therapy for chronic insomnia.[2]
  • US estimates put moderate to severe sleep-disordered breathing at 10% of men and 3% of women aged 30 to 49, and 17% of men and 9% of women aged 50 to 70.[3]

If sleep problems continue, ask a clinician

  1. Could my snoring, breathing pauses or daytime sleepiness be sleep apnea, and do I need a sleep study?
  2. Is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia available to me?
  3. Could any of my medicines or supplements be affecting my sleep?
  4. Is changing the time I take NMN or NR worth trying, given what the trials found?
