Ibutamoren safety record for a young adult: product, changes to watch and questions
The young-adult evidence is tiny and short, so what matters is what is happening to you and what is actually in the product. Record the changes the trials did find, the results you already have, and the product details, and bring them to a clinician.

What the human studies show
- A crossover study in nine healthy young men ran three 7-day periods, one on placebo and two on ibutamoren.[1]
- In the 8-week trial in 24 obese men aged 18 to 50, an oral glucose tolerance test showed impaired glucose handling with ibutamoren at weeks 2 and 8.[2]
- In a hip-fracture trial in adults 60 and older, congestive heart failure occurred in 6.5% on ibutamoren versus 1.7% on placebo.[2]
- FDA's category 2 page (content current as of 04/22/2026) lists ibutamoren mesylate for 503A, added September 29, 2023, citing the potential for congestive heart failure in certain patients.[3]
Questions for the clinician
- Which of the changes I logged match what the trials found, and which need checking soon?
- Given the glucose findings in the trials, should any of my results be rechecked?
- Could the product I have contain something other than what the label says?
- Does my blood pressure, or any heart or kidney history, change how you see this?
- Is there an approved option for the goal I have?
