NR or NMN product: patent, exclusivity and FDA status lookup sheet

Sellers often say an ingredient is patented or exclusive. Write down the patent numbers they cite, look each one up, note its title, owner, status and the date you checked, and set that against FDA's own definitions of patents and exclusivity.

Reference points

  • Google Patents lists US8197807B2, a Dartmouth College patent, as active with an adjusted expiration of 2026-11-19, and says it has not performed a legal analysis of that status.[1]

Before relying on a 'patented' claim

  • The patent's title matches the ingredient you are buying
  • You checked its status and expiration yourself and wrote down the date
  • You know whether it claims the ingredient, a salt or crystal form, or a method of use
  • The seller names the patent owner or the licence it relies on

Ask the seller

  1. Which patent numbers cover this exact ingredient, and who owns them?
  2. Is the ingredient made under licence from the patent owner?
  3. Can you provide a certificate of analysis for this lot?
  4. Has FDA acknowledged a new dietary ingredient notification for this ingredient, and when?
