NMN and NR outside the US: label and authorisation check

Check an NMN or NR product against the rules where it is sold in the EU, Great Britain or Canada: the authorised ingredient name, the daily amount on the label, and the licence number. Record the product details and the answers you get from the seller.

Companion to “NMN/NR Regulatory Status: US, EU, Canada, and UK Rules for Nicotinamide Mononucleotide and Riboside” · healthrx.com/nad-nmn/regulatory-status-global · Facts checked 2026-10-18

European Union and Great Britain

  • NR chloride is an authorised EU novel food for food supplements: up to 300 mg/day for adults, 230 mg/day in pregnancy or breastfeeding.[1]
  • The label must call it 'Nicotinamide riboside chloride'. It was authorised on 20 February 2020, with the original applicant's data protection ending 20 February 2025.[1]
  • Great Britain lists NR chloride as authorised in England, Scotland and Wales on the same terms (status date 31 December 2020).[2]
  • EFSA's panel, in an opinion adopted 4 March 2026, assessed one synthetic beta-NMN for food supplements at up to 300 mg/day for adults; an EFSA opinion is a safety assessment, not the authorisation itself.[3]

Canada

  • Health Canada's NMN monograph lets licensed products state antioxidant and vitamin B3-type uses.[4]
  • It allows up to 1,200 mg of NMN a day and no more than 600 mg in a single dose.[4]
  • Labels must say to ask a practitioner before use beyond 8 weeks above 250 mg a day, or beyond 12 weeks at 250 mg or less.[4]
  • Labels must also say to ask a practitioner first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have diabetes.[4]

  • Imported or 'research use' products noted as outside these frameworks

  1. Which authorisation or licence covers this product in this country?
  2. Is the ingredient the same one named in that authorisation or monograph?
  3. Can you send the certificate of analysis for this lot?
