What the evidence on this page shows

  • In a 16-week randomized trial, adding tirzepatide 5 mg weekly to metformin brought back regular cycles in 53.6% of women, against 21.4% on metformin alone.[1]
  • The same trial found no significant difference between the groups in SHBG or free androgen index.[1]
  • Liraglutide 3 mg, a GLP-1 drug, lowered weight by 5.7% over 32 weeks in women with PCOS, against 1.4% on placebo.[2]
  • Mounjaro may make birth control pills less effective: switch to a non-oral method or add a barrier method for 4 weeks after starting and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.[3]
  • Tell your prescriber if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant.[3]

  2. Should free testosterone and SHBG be repeated, and when?
  3. Which contraception suits me while my dose is still going up?
  4. If my periods become regular, when could I start trying to conceive, and when would tirzepatide stop?
  5. Does metformin stay in my plan?
  6. Will my plan cover tirzepatide for my diagnosis?
