Gallbladder supplement and prescription review for a Mounjaro visit

List every vitamin, fiber product, fish oil, bile salt or 'gallbladder support' product you take, with the amount on its label and why you take it, plus your gallbladder history. It lets the prescriber separate nutrition choices from ursodiol, the prescription medicine whose label covers preventing gallstones during rapid weight loss.

What the sources say

  • Ursodiol is a prescription bile acid; its capsule label lists preventing gallstones in obese patients losing weight rapidly as an approved use.[1]
  • NIDDK: ursodiol can help prevent gallstones in people losing weight rapidly on very low-calorie diets or after weight-loss surgery.[2]
  • NIDDK: bile acid medicines work best on small cholesterol stones, and dissolving them may take months or years.[3]
  • NIDDK's eating advice for gallstones: healthy fats such as fish oil and olive oil help the gallbladder contract and empty, with fewer refined carbohydrates and less sugar.[4]
  • Mounjaro's pooled placebo-controlled trials in adults reported acute gallbladder disease in 0.6% on Mounjaro and 0% on placebo.[5]

This is not a supplement question

  • During or after an attack, pain lasting several hours, nausea and vomiting, fever or chills, yellow skin or eyes, or tea-colored urine and light stools: NIDDK says to see a doctor right away, not to try a product first.[6]

For the prescriber

  1. Does my weight-loss pace or gallstone history make ursodiol worth considering?
  2. Do any of these products interact with my other medicines?
  3. Which of these is worth keeping for nutrition, and which adds nothing?
  4. What symptoms mean I should call rather than wait for the next visit?
