Wegovy constipation food, fiber and fluid diary
Track what you eat and drink against your bowel movements while you raise fiber over a few weeks, so you can see what helped and bring the record to your prescriber if it did not. The trial findings on fiber dose, kiwifruit and other foods, and the symptoms that need a call instead of another diet change, are on the same sheet.
Your starting point
Wegovy dose and date of the last increase
Usual bowel pattern before Wegovy
Fiber foods you eat on a typical day now
Fluid limits from your cliniciankidney or heart conditions
Iron or other medicines that can constipate
Daily food and bowel diary
Add fiber gradually and write down the food and portion, not just 'more fiber'.

Swaps from this page
- Low-fiber protein bars or shakes replaced, or fiber added to them
- Refined white bread and rice swapped for whole grains
- A fiber-containing food at each meal
- Flaxseed ground, not whole
- Chia soaked before eating
- Something eaten within about an hour of waking
What the trials found
- Fiber supplements: more than 10 g a day added about 1.60 bowel movements a week and courses of 4 weeks or longer about 1.33; 10 g a day or less made no significant difference.[1]
- Kiwifruit: 2 green kiwifruits a day for 4 weeks raised complete bowel movements by about 1.5 a week from baseline, in a trial that also tested 7.5 g of psyllium a day.[2]
- Foods review: rye bread gave 0.43 more bowel movements a week than white bread, high-mineral water improved response compared with low-mineral water, and prunes did not differ from psyllium.[3]
Call instead of changing your diet again
- Severe pain in the stomach area that will not go away, with or without nausea or vomiting: stop Wegovy and call your healthcare provider right away.[4]
- Ileus, intestinal obstruction and severe constipation with fecal impaction appear in the Wegovy label's postmarketing reports: a swelling abdomen, pain or vomiting alongside constipation needs prompt evaluation.[4]
To ask if diet changes are not enough
- Could iron or another medicine be adding to the constipation?
- How much fluid and fiber suits my kidney and heart health?
- When should I add an osmotic laxative such as polyethylene glycol?
- Should I stay at my current dose longer before the next increase?
