From each current label
- Wegovy tablets: side effects in the 25 mg tablet trial were similar in type and frequency to those of the injection.[1]
- Zepbound starts at 2.5 mg once weekly for 4 weeks for every approved use.[2]
- Qsymia must not be used in pregnancy; a negative pregnancy test is recommended before starting and every month during treatment for anyone who can become pregnant.[3]
- Contrave carries a boxed warning about suicidal thoughts and behaviors, and it should not be given to people taking opioids long term.[4]
- Xenical: take a multivitamin with fat-soluble vitamins; bowel effects may increase with a diet over 30% fat.[5]
Tell your provider now, not at the switch visit
- Diarrhea that does not go away, or signs of losing fluids: the Wegovy Medication Guide says to tell your healthcare provider right away, because dehydration can cause kidney problems.[1]
For the switch visit
- Has my diarrhea lasted long enough, at a stable dose, to justify a switch?
- Would a slower Wegovy schedule or a lower dose be tried first?
- If I move to Zepbound, what starting dose and step-up schedule will I follow?
- Which option fits my other conditions and medicines?
- When, and how, will we judge whether the new medicine is working?
