Hair shedding on Zepbound: evaluation notes and lab tracker
Fill in your shedding history, weight change and every supplement you take before the appointment, then record any tests your clinician orders with the result, the lab's range and the recheck plan. Tests should follow your history rather than a fixed panel.

What the cited sources show
- Zepbound label: hair loss in 5%, 4% and 5% of the 5, 10 and 15 mg groups versus 1% on placebo, more often in women (7.1%) than men (0.5%), and associated with weight reduction.[1]
- American Academy of Dermatology: shedding 50 to 100 hairs a day is normal. Losing 20 pounds or more can trigger excessive shedding, which often stops on its own.[2]
- Biotin review: in all 18 reported cases of improvement, the person had an underlying disorder affecting hair or nail growth; evidence for supplementing healthy people is insufficient.[3]
- Iron meta-analysis covering 10,029 participants: women with nonscarring hair loss had lower ferritin than women without it. That is an association, not proof that iron restores hair.[4]
Questions for your clinician
- Does this look like temporary shedding after weight loss, or a type of hair loss that needs its own treatment?
- Is there a reason to test for a deficiency in my case, and which tests?
- If a result is low, what dose and form should I take, and when do we recheck?
- Could the biotin or other supplements I take affect any of these tests?
- Is my food and protein intake enough at my current Zepbound dose?
- If the shedding continues, should I see a dermatologist?
