What the sources say
- Wegovy must not be used if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), or if you have MEN 2.[1]
- Planning a pregnancy: stop Wegovy at least 2 months before, because semaglutide stays in the body a long time.[1]
- If you become pregnant while using Wegovy for weight reduction, stop it.[1]
- In 43 postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes on semaglutide 1.0 mg, birth-control pill hormone levels were not reduced; pregnancy prevention itself was not tested.[2]
- In pooled STEP 1 to 3, a PHQ-9 depression score of 15 or more at any visit occurred in 2.9% on semaglutide and 4.4% on placebo; the analysis advises monitoring mental health in people with obesity.[3]
- Gallstones were reported in 1.6% of Wegovy-treated adults and 0.7% on placebo in the weight-reduction trials.[1]
